When learning a new craft it’s expected that you’ll need a few tools.
Quilting is no different and requires some essentials for accurate cutting and simplified sewing.
Notion Supplies Needed:
Rotary cutter, self-healing cutting mat
(a good investment is one which combines a cutting mat with an ironing surface) small travel iron, creative grids ruler x 2 rulers- (2.5 x 24 in and 6.5 x 6.5)
Fabric scissors, small embroidery scissors, straight pins - (Make sure your pins are at least 1.5 – 2″) heat disappearing marking pen, seam ripper, 1/4 inch sewing foot, walking foot, regular sewing foot, extra bobbins, extra machine needles, sewing machine in good working order with power cord, machine tools and machine book.
(thread and fabric are discussed below).
PLEASE BRING ALL ABOVE NOTIONS TO EACH CLASS!
Fabric supplies needed:
1. - Fabric for piecing your blocks: 9-12 coordinating fat quarters, or 9 -12 - 1/4 yard of coordinating designs/colors
2. - Background fabric - 1/2 yard
3. - Border/lattice fabric - 2.5 yards - this fabric will be for the lattice and a 6-inch-wide border to be added after your quilt
4. - Binding fabric - 1/2 yard
5. - Backing fabric - 3.5 yards
Where fabrics are concerned there really is a difference in quality. High quality cotton starts with a superior product and is less likely to bleed when washed.
Thread color is a preference I always use a white or off-white color of thread (if you choose color thread such as red or blue this may bleed thru or show thru your beautiful quilt)
1 spool of your color choose of thread
