Beginner: Making a T-Shirt Quilt



PLEASE READ all the below information. You may print out
for you to refer to often, This is NOT a beginning sewing class!

This is a 4 week class geared to the beginner level of making
a T-Shirt Quilt. 
May 20th, May 27th, (no class June 3) June 10th and June 17th
You will have some home work to complete
The first day of class you will NOT need your sewing machine
You will need for the 1st day of class:
6.5 x 24 inch Ruler, heat disappearing pen, rotary cuter and
rotary mat, cutting scissors, and stabilizer.

Below are all of the Notions & Supplies Needed to bring to class:
If you do not have the needed supplies you can purchase at SCI
on your first day of  to class.

NOTIONS:
Rotary cutter with self-healing cutting mat and a pressing mat
(If you want a good investment in a cutting mat, consider a travel mat which combines a cutting mat with an ironing surface) 
small travel iron, 
Highly recommended creative grids ruler  - A large ruler
6.5 x 24 inches  
Fabric scissors & small embroidery scissors,
straight pins - (Make sure your pins are at least 1.5 – 2″ NO LONG PINS)
one disappearing ink type marking pen, 
seam ripper, 
1/4 inch sewing foot, regular sewing foot,
filled bobbins the color of thread you are going to use,
extra sewing machine needles, 
your sewing machine in good working order with power cord, sewing machine tools

For the binding class you will need your sewing machine walking foot for attaching the quilt binding.

Fabric, Shirts and other notions needed: 

Minimum of 16 T-Shirts or depending on how large you want to make your quilt more T shirts for more blocks 

Stabilizer for the backing of your T-Shirt blocks -
if you are using 16 large size T-shirts plan for approximately 1/2 yard (18 ") of stabilizer for each block 
or Amount can be determined in class which will depend on the number of shirts you use...
A good choice of stabilizer: Pellon P 44 F Fusible Interfacing which This lightweight fusible interfacing is well suited for use with light to medium weight fabrics to add stability and definition. Average price 0.99 cents per yard.
You will need a minimum of 8 yards.

Batting: To be determined in class

Background fabric/sashing - To be determined in class

Border - To be determined in class

Binding fabric - To be determined in class

Backing fabric - To be determined in class

Thread - Highly recommended 100% cotton Thread color is your preference 1 spool of thread with 1000 yds
